Eau de parfum,
eau de toilette, solid perfumes, essential oils, hair mists, body sprays, the
options are endless when it comes to this particular search.
Many
individuals prefer to wear different scents every day, or switch them out
depending on the season, much like their wardrobe.
Which is
absolutely justified - some scents are far too overbearing to wear in the
summer, or too light to wear in the winter.
However...
The power of
having your own unique signature scent is, to me, unparalleled.
A fragrance
that people smell and immediately think of you is one of the ultimate keys to
becoming truly, perpetually polished.
It's an
integral part of your classic, everyday look and routine.
How do you
find your signature scent?
These are my
5 steps to finding The One:
1. How do
you want to be seen?
Although
this is about a signature scent, your scent personality is very much a part of
your overall image. If you’re wearing a particularly bold scent that you enjoy,
that can alter your attitude, posture, and even your own mood. If your
fragrance is simply a fresh, pleasant scent, then that will absolutely work in
your favor as well!
Finding a
signature fragrance is just like finding that perfect LBD that you can wear to
anything.
2. What
scent would you smell all day if you could?
Do you have
a favorite candle? Favorite air freshener? Do you gravitate toward a particular
scent in your facial or body care routine?
Do you have
a favorite shampoo/leave in moisturizer/hair styling product that you
absolutely crave the scent of?
Dissect
those objects and see what you like (or what you think you like).
3. How
much do you want to spend?
Pick a
budget and stick to it. Limit yourself to a certain area of the store or a
certain brand that you know is within your price range.
It would be
devastating to find your perfect scent and discover it’s the crème de la crème
of fragrances, distinct and famed, and that the particular fragrance you're
smelling has only been produced in small quantities due to the high quality of
the ingredients... and subsequently costs $700, accompanied by a beautiful,
silk-lined leather box... [I’m looking at you, Clive Christian No. 1]
4. Does
it work with your body chemistry?
This is
where free samples come in. For a while, you may feel very silly and
outrageously cheap walking around the perfume/beauty department asking for a
perfume sample and leaving. It may even be incredibly embarrassing. However, there
is a good chance you will never see that person again, and this is for your own
good!
Why purchase
a perfume just to discover that the pleasant musk you smell upon the first
spritz actually dries down to the musk of a man who has just spent 3 hours in
the gym?
Make sure
you walk around in the sample for a few hours. Run some errands. Try to work
out in it if you have the time.
How does it
transform through the day? Does it make you sick after a few hours? Or are you
still marveling in the beautiful middle notes and constantly bringing your nose
to your wrist in sheer delight?
5.
Purchase and wear to your heart’s content!
Every day,
every hour of the day, all the time.
If you are
still unconvinced that one scent for all seasons is a beautiful way to live,
then I suggest you find your favorite scent, and perhaps check out the other
versions of that scent family for slight variations to switch up your scent
wardrobe seasonally.

My all-time
favorite scent:
Do you have
a signature scent or are you in the market for one?
Do you get
bored easily and need to rotate between several different fragrances?
Do you swap
out your fragrances the same way that you swap out your clothes for each
season?
Until next
time, darling -
Kiss kiss,
